OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - House of Representatives hopeful Kara Eastman has picked up an endorsement from former President Barack Obama.

Eastman was included in a series of tweets from Obama on Monday morning that listed his first wave of 2020 endorsements.

Obama called the group a “diverse and hopeful collection of thoughtful, empathetic and highly qualified Democrats.”

Eastman is locked into a rematch with incumbent Rep. Don Bacon this November in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.

Bacon, a Republican, defeated Eastman by two percentage points in the 2018 race.

Bacon was endorsed by President Donald Trump before the primary back in May.

Also among Obama’s endorsements were four Iowa Democrats: Theresa Greenfield, Abby Finkenauer, Rita Hart and Cindy Axne.

Sen. Ben Sasse, a Republican, issued the following statement after Obama endorsed Eastman: “Kara Eastman’s not even a Barack Obama Democrat. She’s a Bernie Sanders / AOC Democrat. She's too extreme for Nebraska."
