While thousands packed into the Mid-America Center to see President Trump speak Tuesday night, a much smaller crowd stood outside the venue.

Protesters stood through the rain and cold as others made their way inside the venue. For at least three hours, demonstrators holding signs directed at President Trump stood along 23rd Avenue across from the Mid-America Center.

The protests were peaceful for the most part, until emotions boiled over at the end of the night when an elderly woman and a middle-aged man got into an argument.

The skirmish broke out over clashing political beliefs and the man allegedly threatened the elderly woman but the disturbance was quickly broken up by a nearby Pottawattamie County deputy.

He grabbed my sign then he grabbed my walker," Evelyn Russel said. "He had it held up over his head like he was going to hit me with it."
