OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Winter is still here, but that's not slowing down the Sandhill cranes!
According to Crane Trust, over 20,000 Sandhill cranes were detected, in two roosts between HWY 281 and Alda Road.
The cranes were roosting on solid ice as the river was totally frozen. There was more open water west of Minden to Overton.
Crane Trust says that that the number of Bald Eagles and Canada Geese were up a bit over last week.
