Santa Lucia Festival to increase security

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Many will be making their way downtown this weekend for the Santa Lucia Festival and extra steps will be taken to make sure visitors are safe following a fatal shooting in the Old Market over the weekend.

Organizers at the festival are coordinating with the Omaha Parks and Recreating Department and Omaha Police ahead of the annual event, which begins Friday.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office will provide on-site security and OPD is increasing its presence around the Lewis and Clark Landing. Additionally, for the first time, Santa Lucia will have overnight security.
