The Pottawatamie County Sheriff's Office is issuing a warning about a new twist to an IRS phone scam.

Deputies say the caller will phone an intended victim claiming to be a representative of the Sheriff's Office and there is a problem with the IRS.  The Sheriff's Department's main telephone number has been reportedly showing up on caller ID displays.  The caller then instructs the intended victim to call a number and give personal information.

The Sheriff's office says it does not provide notifications on behalf of the IRS. Sheriff Jeff Danker says if you or someone you know has been the victim of this type of scam, to contact the Pottawatamie County Sheriff's office or your local police department.
