OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) -- — A nationwide movement is getting essential supplies to seniors in the metro who are stuck at home.

Shopping Angels is helping people get groceries and any other important items without having to leave their homes.

Volunteers have done at least a dozen runs so far and are looking to help other seniors, mothers with children people with underlying health conditions, or senior living homes. You can call them or go to their website to sign up.

Residents will have to pay for the groceries, but Shopping Angels will select them and deliver them to you at no charge. Other services often charge a delivery fee.

“I speak with a lot of seniors on a daily basis and most of them are living on a fixed income and so $10 per delivery,” said Kari McElderry, of the Nebraska Coordinators for Shopping Angels. “Granted they may not use us every week but $10 is $10. That’s definitely something they could be saving. If it’s not needed to spend the money why spend it?”

Shopping Angels also offers sponsorships for people to pay for another person’s groceries.
