OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Both the Santa Lucia Festival and the Omaha Summer Arts Festival bring out great characters that help them both go.

At the Santa Lucia Festival, the main food booth has volunteers that have been doing it since they were born.

Anna Venditte helps run it and says it's been in her family for over 90 years.

“It dates back to my grandma, she was the first queen of the Santa Lucia back in 1929. So we date back quite a few years," says Venditte.

She recommends the mostaccioli and meatballs, which is also a crowd favorite.

Over at the Summer Arts Festival, Akeem Ayanniyi came from Santa Fe, New Mexico, but is originally from Nigeria. His family has been doing making homemade drums for nine generations.

“It’s what I know how to do best. And I’ve been doing this all my life, so I keep the legacy going," says Ayanniyi.

The festivals will both continue through the weekend.
