Southwest Iowa man opens the "Art Church"

Posted

Saturday night, a group of storytellers gathered at a century old church in South Iowa to share their words with the crowd.

As they told their tales, the very building they were sitting had it's own story to tell. Situated a block off of main street in Malvern, Iowa, the former church has been affectionately dubbed the "Art Church," and it is the beginning of a new chapter.

Zack Jones, 44, returned to Malvern after 11 years in Arizona. He purchased the church, turned the basement into the apartment and the church into his own art studio. He painted the ceiling, he painted a mural downtown and now that it's all done, the church hosts guests for weddings and as an Airbnb.

It also hosts events like it did Saturday, a storytelling event that helped raise money for the Southwest Iowa Art Tour, which makes a stop at the Art Church on Sept. 15 and 16.
