Springfield clean up after bad storm

Posted

Heavy winds ripped through this neighborhood tearing down trees and knocking out power.

Today people are dealing with the aftermath.

"I got the last Coleman cooler on wheels at Wal-Mart and he got the last chainsaw and generator from Home Depot."

Nancy Laimans says it could have been worse.

"Something like this is going to be a little expensive but nobody is hurt, nobody died,  and our house is livable."

"This is recoverable."

Laimans says she shocked.

Friday night's storm knocked down every tree in her yard.

"We have lived here for 30 years and never experienced anything like this."

The storm took out Laiman's electricity along with the rest of Springfield.

"Power has been out since 7:30 and it's still out.”

People brought loads of fallen limbs and trees to this dumping area."

"They say the storm felt very similar to a tornado."

"The front came through and there were 100 miles winds flat across, trees flying, debris moving everywhere, heavy rain."

Unfortunately Laimans home insurance won't cover her loss in landscaping.

"Our losses are our losses, they are all out of pocket, and I’m guessing it’s going to be somewhere between six thousand to ten thousand dollars."

Although people have been out all day cleaning up nature's mess, they say they are beyond thankful for the community support.

"The communal spirit is tremendous, this is the kind of thing that brings people together."
