Omaha's road conditions are the political hot topic in the mayor's race. The pothole issue has even gained national attention

Today-- Mayor Jean Stothert announces she's devoting an extra five million dollars to street repair and re-surfacing projects. The funds became available April 21st after the city paid back what was owed to the Omaha Police Officers Association.

She says it would allow the city to repave an additional 50 miles. "I have doubled the street re-surfacing budget since I have been mayor... and any additional funds that we get in the budget, I have been committed to putting them into road repairs and re-surfacing," said Mayor Jean Stothert. "So we want to let people know now that commitment means something."

The funds announced this morning would be in addition to the 11.2 million already pledged to street re-surfacing. Last month, Stothert announced 41 locations in the plans for street re-surfacing.
