LA VISTA, Neb. (KMTV) — La Vista Police received reports of a man holding a woman against her will on Wednesday, leading to a standoff with the Sarpy County SWAT team and an investigation into how the two know each other.
Multiple agencies showed up, blocking off the intersection of 68th and Heartwood.
Authorities say this all started in Omaha.
"We called assets into the area because we thought we had a barricaded gunman. We believed initially that we had a false imprisonment, terroristic threat type of crime, which is a felony," said La Vista Police Chief Bob Lausten.
Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, police were called regarding a woman being held against her will.
Lausten said the victim was able to leave the home, telling law enforcement a man was armed with a weapon and barricaded in the attic.
Further investigation revealed an earlier incident occurred in Omaha with the man and woman involving a weapon, according to La Vista Police.
Neighbors gathered outside on their driveways watching this unfold for roughly 5 hours.
Thirteen-year-old Jaxson Povich said he came home from school and saw a growing police presence, sharing this video of the Sarpy County SWAT team moving in.
"With one cop car, I was thinking something was happening like a robbery in the neighborhood. But, when more came and surrounded the house and after that SWAT and everything, and I knew what was going on," said Povich.
La Vista Police later drew back their SWAT team because they felt they did not need to make a forced entry into the home and raise the risk level.
Marked patrol vehicles are still on scene in case the man comes out.
There appears to have been no arrests made at this time.
Lausten says the woman is safe and they know who the suspect is.
