Four staff members at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution were assaulted by inmates Wednesday afternoon, two of whom needed outside medical care.
Department of Corrections officials say the staffers were attacked after four inmates had been allowed out of their cells. Some were let out for their meals, while others were let out for cleaning after their cells had been flooded due to toilets that had bene plugged. Corrections officers used physical force to stop the assaults and subdue the inmates. The inmates involved and others in Unit 2B threatened additional attacks in their demands to be let out of their cells.
Housing Units 2A and 2B were on modified operations as a result of a disturbance on March 2nd. The remainder of the facility is under normal operations.
