Prosecutors say a night of drinking lead to a friend losing his life.  Now the teen accused of causing a fatal crash that killed Jason Hald, 18, is behind bars charged in his death in Douglas Co. Court.

Emily Standley, 18, is formally charged with felony motor vehicle homicide and SUI serious bodily injury in the crash that killed her friend Jason Hald, a Northwest H.S. Senior, and seriously injured Myles McIntyre.

Judge Thomas Harmon set her bond at $150,000 – 10% in jail court on Friday.  If she does post bond she will have to enroll in a 24-7 sobriety program and be tested twice a day.

"When you see anybody, anybody that drinks and drives it's bad enough but when somebody's not even supposed to be able to drink yet hasn't reached that age is a minor and has somehow been provided alcohol or has access to it it's even more disturbing,” said Douglas Co. Attorney Don Kleine.

On November 4 at around 8:30pm, Standley allegedly ran a red light at Wenninghoff Road and Sorenson Parkway, and a truck slammed into the side of her car.  Prosecutors say her Blood Alcohol Content was .113.

Her attorney asked for a lower bond because she's never been in trouble and isn't a flight risk.

"I said the bond was too high under the circumstances the judge did what he felt he had to do,” said her attorney Jeff Courtney.

Prosecutors say Standley admitted to being drunk and said she shouldn't have been driving.  Police found a beer can and marijuana on the floor of the car.

Her attorney told the judge Standley will be evaluated to see if she has a substance problem.

If convicted she faces up to 23 years in prison.

Kleine says they are investigating how the teen got the alcohol and will see if charges are warranted.
