An 18-year-old man has been charged in the death of his infant son after the baby died in the hospital over the weekend.
Missael Valadez, 18, was caring for the infant when Omaha Police officers and Omaha Fire medics were dispatched to a South Omaha home near 18th and K streets around 3 p.m. last Friday afternoon, according to a Wednesday press release from the Omaha Police Department.
Unresponsive, the baby was taken to Nebraska Medical Center with CPR in progress, but was stabilized at the hospital and admitted to pediatric intensive care, the release states.
After an investigation by OPD Special Victims Unit Detectives, Valadez was booked for child abuse resulting in serious injury, the release states. The baby died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, and the Douglas County Attorney's Office enhanced the charge to homicide child abuse, it states.
