Recent criminal activity in Sarpy County has made home security a priority for many residents in the Tiburon area.

"I’ve been thinking about HD cameras and I think people should get HD cameras,” said resident Kimley Dove. “That might be the incentive for me to do that."

Neighbors said the Sarpy County Sheriff's recent search for a rape suspect in particular has everyone taking steps to better protect their own homes.

"Now, kind of just locking doors, checking our windows before we leave, more so than we used to," Dove said, adding that he's replacing the handles and locks on his door.

He also said it's about looking out for each other.

"When someone new moves in, get to know them, talk to them, let them know you're around," neighbor Jana Creason said. "If I have my garage door open at night where I can't see it, my neighbor will text me and say 'Your garage is open. You might want to close it.' "

People in the area say it's a shame the prowler suspect was not arrested before a violent crime was committed.

"If he would have been arrested sooner, this wouldn't have happened out here," resident Tim Goodman said.

He said he's thankful Stephen Prior, suspected in the Tiburon robberies and the rape of a Sarpy County woman, is sitting in jail, but that the community is still well aware of others who could be out there.

"I think it goes through everyone's head that it could possibly be them," he said.
