Many Iowans woke up Friday to the destruction caused by a sudden flurry of tornadoes.

The storms flattened buildings in three cities, injuring as many as 17 people.

Marshalltown was one of the cities hit the hardest, with historical buildings in the downtown area suffering significant damage. Additionally, the storm blew the roof off of, and caused significant damage to the courthouse.

In Bondurant, many homeowners say the area was hit with a storm that "sounded like a freight train."

In Pella, the Vermeer Manufacturing plant saw cars piled on top of each other in a parking lot, injuring 10 people. At the time of the storm, Vermeer was holding a customer appreciation event with 400 people in the facility.
