TransCanada files for Keystone XL approval

TransCanada has filed a new application with the Nebraska Public Service Commission seeking approval for the Keystone XL pipeline route through Nebraska.

The Obama administration rejected the pipeline, but President Donald Trump signed an executive order last month that allowed the project to move forward. TransCanada's previous attempts to start construction in Nebraska were fought by environmental activists and some landowners who are concerned about the pipeline's environmental impact. Opponents have already met to discuss how to stop the project.

The Keystone XL pipeline would carry crude oil from the Canadian tarsands through Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska where it would connect to an existing pipeline network to refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast.
