OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - After announcing their retirements earlier this year, Tuesday marked the final city council meeting that included Gary Gernandt and Franklin Thompson.
"I thoroughly enjoyed being a council member when we were colleagues together and the work that we've done together," Mayor Jean Stothert, who served on the city council with both, said. "I think if there is something I can say about the both of you it's number one is representing your constituents, and you have done a darn good job at it."
Stothert also handed over the "key to the city" to both, saying, they are only reserved for very special people.
Both Gernandt and Thompson are four-term city councilman who were first elected in 2001.
