OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — An unauthorized road closure is causing traffic congestion along 168th Street.

A Sarpy County spokeswoman says BNSF Railway closed 156th Street without the county's authorization, forcing additional traffic onto 168th street, causing the backups. Sarpy County directed BNSF to reopen the road immediately Friday morning, but when Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the site, crews had already begun work on the railroad crossing, making it impassable for cars.

BNSF says they will try and restore the crossing and open the road by rush hour Friday evening. Earlier in the week, BNSF requested permission to close 156th Street to repair their railroad crossing, but the request was denied because the street serves as a detour route for the Harrison Street expansion project.
