UPDATE, July 10:

Omaha police arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a 10 year old girl.

The child's mother says she walked in on the assault near 32nd and L.

Neighbors say they chased down the suspect in South Omaha and helped police locate him.

Several neighbors say they once felt comfortable in their neighborhood.

They say they would leave their doors unlocked and let their children play freely, but after yesterday’s incident they are thinking twice.

Omaha police arrested 33 year old Gabriel Cardona after a mother reported walking in on Cardona engaging in a sexual act with her child.

He was booked in Douglas County jail this morning.

A lady who lives in the area says she has a young daughter and is happy to know Cardona has been caught.

She says she feels sorry for the family she describes as nice and friendly.

“I hope the family is fine and they can recover from this, and see that not every person in the world is bad and going to hurt her.”

People say they often saw Cardona walking around the neighborhood but never caught any bad vibes from him.

A group of neighbors say they came together and caught Cardona a few blocks down the street then waited for police to come arrest him.

Neighbors are commending each other for finding the suspect.

They say they are feeling a lot better knowing he's sitting in jail tonight
