Improving health care is what Veterans Affairs senior leadership hopes to accomplish Wednesday night at 6:30pm. The VA Nebraska and Western Iowa Health Care System will host a town hall at the American Legion Post 331 off of 21st & N Streets.
They want to get open feedback on what they're doing well, and what can improve. Senior leadership from the VA Health System will be there to hear directly from veterans and their families.
"One thing our director is really adamant about is that he wants to hear the good, bad, and ugly; hopefully it's more good. If we don't know of a problem that might exist then we can't fix it,” said Will Ackerman with the VA Nebraska and Western Iowa Health Care System.
They'll also update people on the progress of the new VA hospital, and a separate long term care facility.
The Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act passed in 2014 to improve response times when 40 U.S. veterans died while waiting for appointments.
The Nebraska-Western Iowa VA says they rank in the top 20% in the country among VA hospitals when it comes to quality, safety, and wait times.
