Veteran family given home in Council Bluffs

Posted

A couple who both served our country received quite the thank you gift on Veterans Day.

They received the keys to their new home in Council Bluffs and the best part.

They won't have to make a single house payment thanks to the generosity of the community.

On Veteran's Day came a very big thank you.

On a community like Council Bluffs people in our community work together to help each other and it's a great way to say thank you to our vets, welcome to Council Bluffs applause.

Friday was made possible because of Bill Perdue of BP Quality Homes and many local volunteers.

Last Veterans Day, Perdue came up with the idea to build a home free of charge for a veteran.

Many area sub contractors and vendors were eager to donate their time and supplies..

From there the family of five got to check out their new four bedroom, two bath home

Laura and Carlos Smith who are both army veterans were chosen out of many applicants to receive a mortgage free home.

“We are very appreciative we are very grateful, then again this is very humbling,” said Smith.

Cheri Scott of Neighborworks home solutions says the smiths are beyond deserving..

“They're just amazing I just can't say enough about this family,” she said.

Laura Smith says her family can't wait to put down roots in Council Bluffs.

"Its home, we don't have to move again, this is going to be their forever home and that's huge. It's amazing” she said.

The Smiths get to officially move in on the 17th of this month.
