OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The Open Door Mission welcomed back volunteers Saturday after not having them help at the center since March due to the pandemic.
Volunteers worked in the kitchen among other areas while getting used to new procedures including social distancing and mask-wearing.
President and CEO of Open Door Mission, Candace Gregory, said more than 15,000 people normally volunteer each year, so not having them around has been tough.
“I’m tired and if I’m tired my team is tired. Many of us have not had a day off. Many of us have been working to implement new policies and procedures and carry them out. There has been many things we've tried that didn't work. Now we feel we have a good system in place with the quarantining,” said Gregory.
Gregory said they had 47 volunteers Saturday.
