Following Nebraska's loss to Northern Illinois last Saturday, former athletic director Shawn Eichorst made a rare public appearance after the game.
"Nobody's feeling sorry for anybody. There's no excuses to be made," Eichorst told a group of reporters. "We will work hard and hunker down and provide great leadership. I will provide the leadership as I have up to this point and continue to stay positive."
Eichorst was fired Thursday, less than week after his comments.
