In the part two months, more people in Nebraska have been getting pulled over for having expired license plates and while police did not give an exact number in Omaha, they say there is no it is a problem that has no signs of slowing down.
January marked the beginning of the first full year for the new sower license plates as the old yellow meadowlark plates have expired, and expired tags are enough to get you pulled over.
"Certainly with a completely new design plate, it makes it more noticeable and easier for an officer to have reason to pull a vehicle over," OPD officer Michael Pecha said.
Additionally, it's not just moving cars you have to worry about, Pecha said any vehicle that is unregistered or has an expired license plate can be towed even if it is parked in the street.
