A serious car accident on I-80 this afternoon resulted in leg amputations for a woman and man who were hit by another driver.
Omaha Police say the incident happened around 3 p.m. when a car stalled on the shoulder of the highway near I-80 and I-480.
Officers report a tow truck was at the scene to move the car, while the couple watched from the shoulder. There were children inside the car at the time.
An SUV driven by a woman in the left lane, lost control and hit the man and woman, causing life threatening injuries.
The man lost both of his legs and the woman had one leg amputated in the accident. They were both taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Police shut down the highway for about an hour. It re-opened around 4 p.m. Investigators say weather conditions and reckless driving are believed to be factors in the case.
