The fantastic weather on Memorial Day provided a nearly perfect excuse to get outside. That led to big crowds at places to take the whole family in Omaha including the Henry Doorly Zoo.
“It was incredible how busy it was today,” said zoo-goer Paul Gomez who said the crowds stymied the time to find a parking spot, “it was frustrating looking around find parking-but we found one finally.”
3 News Now witnessed many vehicles parked on grass or medians to get the closest parking spot to the zoo.
For Kim and Debbie Kline they tried to go yesterday but the clog in parking changed their minds.
“Because the closer we got-no parking so you got to go to the alternate place-we here we are and it was great,” said Debbie.
Zoo guest Rick Fitchhorn and his family knew it was going to be busy but couldn’t resist visiting the number one tourist attraction in the state.
“Sometimes I'm willing to fight the crowds to come see it for my kids,” said Fitchhorn.
The family even had a strategy for finding a spot, “There was a young couple with a newborn that was sleeping and we just kind of followed them-carefully.”
However others didn’t have a problem with parking.
“Pretty lucky we just pulled right in,” said Kristin Deicke.
The zoo closes at 5p.m. and opens at 9a.m.
