Bob Einstein, 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' actor, dies after cancer battle

A two-time Emmy-winner with a recurring role on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," Bob Einstein has died at age 76.

He had been recently diagnosed with cancer, according to deadline.com .

Einstein's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" character, Marty Funkhouser, was part of nearly two dozen episodes of the show.

He was a writer in the 1960s and won an Emmy for his part on the writing team for "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour." He also won an Emmy as a producer for "Van Dyke and Company" and was nominated for an Emmy for writing on "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour," Deadline reports.

Einstein created the goofy and satirical stuntman "Super Dave Osborne" character which first appeared on "The John Byner Comedy Hour" in the 1970s. The character became well known and was seen on other shows in the decades that followed.

Einstein, whose real name is Stewart Robert Einstein, died in Indian Wells, California.
