Keeping senior citizens safe from coronavirus

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The coronavirus to most people would feel like a common cold or the flu -- but for seniors, it could be deadly.

Senior centers especially can be hit hard like we've seen in Washington state, where 18 have died so far in one facility.

Senior centers like New Cassel have become like small, isolated islands -- restricting access and doubling up on cleaning. It’s really the only way to truly combat this fast-moving virus.

This center says if an outbreak does happen, residents would self-quarantine in their apartments.

Staff would be checked every day. If someone shows signs of being sick, they stay home.
