OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Hy-Vee says it has temporarily stopped the sale of the popular antihistamine/antacid Zantac after alerts from the FDA about "a low level of nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a probable human carcinogen." They are also offering to refund customers who purchased a drug containing its active ingredient.

Hy-Vee says the FDA is continuing to look into the drug's active ingredient, ranitidine and that preliminary tests found levels that are not much more than amounts found in common foods.

An official recall has been issued for one product containing ranitidine and they say customers who bought it at their stores may be eligibile for a refund.

"The FDA issued an official recall on Topcare 75mg ranitidine products, but no other Zantac brand products and Topcare brand ranitidine products have been recalled. Customers who purchased these products can return them to Hy-Vee for a full refund."
