HOBBS, New Mexico — An investigator with the Roman Diocese of Las Cruces says the liquid coming from the eyes of a Virgin Mary statue in New Mexico appears to be an olive oil mixed with perfume.

The statue at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church was discovered as "weeping" by parishioners on May 20. Since then, it has drawn people from all over the world to see it.

The church's business manager told the Washington Post the weeping occurred again the next day and has happened several times since.

Investigators have been inspecting the interior of the statue to figure out where the liquid is coming from, and they have spoken to the statue's designer, but so far the occurrences are unexplained.

The olive oil falling from the statue is a type used in Catholic churches to anoint the parishioners.
