Sarah Parys, an Omaha mother of six, is making hand woven items out of her home and selling them on Etsy. Parys went to school for studio art, but really fell in love with her looms a couple of years ago.
"I like making things with my hands, and painting things wasn't my gift. So I like making things more useful," she said.
In hours, threads become tapestries and pieces of wool become pillow covers. In 2015, Parys launched her Etsy shop East Parlor. She sells the scarves, table runners, and other creations she makes in her home. She says this passion project has become a business in between playtimes and school and practices and family time, but she's happy East Parlor has woven its way into her life.
"It's almost meditative. I love doing it," Parys says.
Several local stores and Etsy sells her scarves.
