Omaha woman posts baby bump pregnancy Facebook updates with zoo animals

Posted

Working mom-to-be Danielle Wanies has a job that's for the bird, literally. She works among the fowl at the Henry Doorly Zoo.

"I love what I do. I'm very passionate about what I do. I love the animals," Wanies said.

Shen it came time to keep her friends and family in tune with her pregnancy progress, she turned to her job for inspiration. Each week she's snapped a picture with an update of her baby girl's weight and a picture of an animal that weighs the same.

"I didn't want it to just be a picture of hey, here's this animal. I wanted people to learn something from it. So either to dispell fears or disbelief about certain critters," she said.

The posts range from the cute to the crawly. They include snakes, and a hissing cockroach.

Tuesday marks 39 weeks. Wanies's marked it with a post about African black-footed penguins. Danielle says besides the education, it's given her something to look forward too when her symptoms have been a little rough. Most of all, it's given her a way to share two things she loves with the world: her little girl, and the animal world. She's planned out to 42 weeks, with an armadillo set to be the final post.
