COSTA RICA — Health officials in Costa Rica now say 25 people have died since early June after drinking alcohol believed to be tainted with the toxic chemical, methanol, which can be found in solvents and antifreeze.

Authorities say in total, nearly 60 people have been hospitalized for methanol poisoning.

Back in July, the ministry of health issued a national health alert over the contaminated alcohol.

Since then, it has confiscated more than 55,000 containers of tainted products.
