OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha United for Youth has hosted its Back to School Bash for the past 3 years.
This year, the nonprofit needs your help with school supply and clothing donations.
The organization started the event in 2016.
Co-organizer Andre Rash says, the goal was to give kids a free opportunity to get everything the need before school starts.
In 2018, the organization gave to more than 2,000 kids.
From backpacks, to free hair cuts, clothing and shoes, Omaha United for Youth is doing everything it can to prepare students for the upcoming school year.
Rash tells us, giving back is personal.
"I've been living in Omaha my whole entire life so, I grew up in poverty," he said. "I grew up needing a lot of things that I wasn't able to have ... and as I got older and little bit more successful in business I wanted to be able to give those things that I just missed in my childhood.
Rash also says, Omaha United for Youth has held several events in the past to educate kids in the community about financial literacy.
It's also given back to families for the holidays, at their community Christmas party last year.
You can start collecting new school supply items to donate, and drop them off at Boost Mobile off 72nd and Ames.
Rash say, this weekend the organization will be collecting clothing donations from noon to 5 p.m., also at Boost Mobile.
The 4th annual Back to School Bash is set for August 11th at Fontenelle Park, and is free to the public.
