Mike Riley remembers Bob Elliott at Big Ten Media Days

During his time at the podium during Big Ten Media Days, Mike Riley took a minute to reflect on his time with former assistant coach Bob Elliott who passed away earlier this month.

"My relationship working with Coach Elliott was way too short," Riley said. "Bob and I are the same age, and so I really thought on a personal level that this was going to be a really fun guy for me to work with. I really thought we would, absolutely through the end of all this, would be good friends. I will really miss that opportunity with him."

Riley said that Elliott's football resume speaks for itself, but what he learned about Elliott was deeper than that.

"This was a really good person," Riley said. "I think the thing that he loved about what he did was the relationship with the players, both him and his wife Joy. They really embraced and loved that part of what he got to do as a football coach."

Riley added that the team does have plans to remember Bob Elliott throughout the season, but did not provide any specifics as to what that might be.
