Despite an impressive effort from freshman wing Nicea Eliely, the Nebraska women's basketball team suffered an 86-65 loss to the undefeated California Golden Bears.
Eiley tallied a career-high 19 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in the matchup with Cal. The freshman knocked down eight of her 13 shots, as well as two of her three three-point attempts. Sophomore Maddie Simon came off the bench and added a season-high 11 points.
Turnovers were a big issue for the Huskers. Nebraska turned the ball over 26 times which resulted in 33-points. The Huskers only managed to score 19 points off 16 turnovers.
The 2016 USBWA National Freshman of the Year Kristine Anigwe notched 25 points, four rebounds and four blocks for Cal. Anigwe hit 10 of her 13 shots from the field.
The loss drops the Huskers to 3-5 on the season, while Cal improves to 7-0. Up next, the Huskers take on Drake at Pinnacle Bank Arena Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
