COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (KMTV) — With more working from home, there might be more messes and laundry to do. But don't worry, Home Style Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Council Bluffs is open.
"People are just bringing more, a lot of the bedding, blankets, comforters, quilts and just bigger loads of laundry. I think people are getting backlogged at home," said owner Bobbi Calderon. "We have a pickup and delivery service that we work with commercial and residential services, and that can include just regular laundry, uniforms, dry cleaning."
Calderon says here, you can get it all done. They do self-service washing, laundry delivery and drop-off, dry cleaning and work with commercial businesses like retirement homes.
The business is veteran-owned, and Calderon says they like to support local first responders.
"We're also supporters of the police department, highway patrol, the fire department and all the first responders," Calderon said. "And with the police department, we're currently doing free dry cleaning of their uniforms. And so we took information around to all the local offices including Omaha, over to their police department, and offered the same service to them."
When the pandemic first started, Home Style Laundry and Dry Cleaners never closed as in Iowa, they were considered essential. While they stayed opened, they made some changes to limit the number of people inside.
"We just cleaned from top to bottom, and we limited the number of people that can come in the store," Calderon said. "We ask one family member come in the store, no kids, that sort of thing. And for the most part, everyone just hung out in their cars, and they still do that today. I think they're just kind of accustomed to that right now and that's what they're comfortable with."
Beyond keeping things sanitized and practicing social distancing, Calderon says here technology helps make your experience that much easier.
"All of our machines are on credit cards, so you can use credit cards or debit cards to swipe so you don't have to come in and get a whole handful of quarters," Calderon said. "We just recently upped our new data software so we have a new online scheduling for all of our delivery stuff, people can just go online and fill it out and set up their own delivery time, and that's new for us."
