GRETNA, Neb. (KMTV) — At MacDaro's Pub and Pizza in Gretna, pizza is kind of the star of the show when it comes to their menu, but they offer other items as well.

"With the chef's history, he's done every type of cuisine it seems like, and he likes to be challenged, so we do weekend specials that have gone from sushi to we're doing a chicken prosciutto gnocchi this weekend," said owner Colin Daro. "During the quarantine, we're doing a lot of pizzas just because they're a lot better for takeout and delivery than a lot of other things."

When the pandemic hit over a month ago, MacDaro's switched to curbside and to-go orders and even implemented delivery.

"I had to do a lot of the deliveries myself because I want the people to see that I'm out here doing and trying to do the best of a bad situation," said Daro.

The pub only has one phone line, so to keep orders moving, they are relying on social media.

"Facebook is basically what's saving us, and if people can't get through, because sometimes someone will take an order and it can take five minutes to put a whole family's order in," Daro said. "And we will use our Facebook Messenger too, and people can order through that, and then they can pay with their card on delivery or pay cash or whatever."

They've also used Facebook to promote specials and gather business through videos which have gotten quite popular.

Now that restaurants can reopen for dine-in at 50 percent capacity, Daro says they will remain closed and will only be open for takeout and delivery.

"I've talked to a lot of the staff, and they are also leery of it. Do they want to work? Do they want to interact with people yet? Does a family town want to come in and dine?" Caro said. "With now all the beef is supposedly going - well, already the prices have gone crazy through the roof, supposedly it's going to go scarce and very hard to come by anything, so there's another obstacle."

Daro says they could fit around six groups inside and about another six out on the patio, but he still has hesitations because his priority is to keep his staff and customers safe.

"My fear is say that the majority of people are still doing the delivery and carry out, curbside, well what if I have 20 tickets on the board and a couple tables come in and all of a sudden they are - I hope they are not angry - but say their food takes 45 minutes where usually it takes 20, so I can't. I'm not really in a position to overstaff not knowing what's going to happen. There's just so many moving parts."
