OMAHA, Neb. — Heartland Workforce Solutions is hosting a virtual career fair on Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Zoom with 10 employers hiring locally including Mosaic, an organization that serves people with special needs.
“We are on a path to double in size from the next three to five years,” said Heather Schekirke, Director of Talent Acquisition at Mosaic. “And so that means we need to connect more hearts to our mission day after day to make sure we have the bandwidth from an employee perspective to serve the individuals in the way they deserve to be served.”
She said it's important candidates prepare for virtual interviews as they would an in person.
“We have lots and lots of people coming through,” Schekirke said. “And those that are really prepared and able to speak to their experience, their personal connection to our mission, those candidates typically have a higher score or higher rating as far as it comes to the hiring manager being impressed by them as a potential team player.”
Eliminate distractions and do a run through with the platform you'll be using.
“Being attentive, dress for success, have an environment that doesn’t have a lot of distractions behind you,” Mindy Begley, Manager of Talent Acquisition at Valmont Industries, said. “We understand working from home and interviewing from home is a new challenge but try to eliminate those dogs barking or any noise in the background as best as possible.”
Friday's job fair will be speed dating style. It's important to make a good, quick impression.
“We have about three minutes to talk about Valmont and our opportunities and about one minute for Q & A with our candidate,” Begley said. “However, the candidates will receive a packet at the end of the event that gives them the jobs we are looking for, how to contact us.”
Valmont is hiring for a variety of positions in the metro area, primarily on the manufacturing side.
“We are looking for shipping associates, material handlers, machine operators, also on the skilled trades side welders and electromechanical technicians,” Begley said.
Mosaic has positions available with a range of experiences including medication specialists, LPNs, RNs, and direct support professionals.
Best Bison is hiring both full time and part time customer service, cashiers, and kitchen staff.
Nelnet is hiring for customer service and information technology roles.
Blue Cross Blue Shield NE, UPS, Bickford Senior Living, Nesco Resources, Transcom and CSG are also participating the virtual career fair.
