The month of July started warm but finished cool, while rainfall totals were nearly an inch below normal for the month.

You might recall that we had warm weather for the July 4th holiday, and that warmth lingered until the middle of the month. Only two days during the first half of July were below normal.

The opposite was true for the second half of the month as most days were below normal, and only three days were at or above normal. The warmest day of the month was 98 on July 12, and we hit 90 or above eight times in July.

We had 2.93 inches of rain in July, which was nearly an inch below normal for the month. As a result, our area is just over 2 ½ inches below normal for the year. The most rain we received in one day was 1.06 inches on July 17.

Finally, the other thing that started last month is that the sun began setting earlier as we moved farther into July. However, the good news is that we’re just now approaching the halfway point of summer, so there is plenty of the season left to enjoy.
