It’s finally here, a whole new year: 2019! Now that we’ve started a new year and a new month, what might we expect for January?

On average, January is our second snowiest month (though it's tied with the month of February), coming in at 6.1 inches of snow as measured out at Eppley Airfield and then 0.72 inches of rain. As for our temperatures, the average high during January is 33 degrees, and the average low comes in at 14 degrees.

Looking ahead, we are likely in for a warmer stretch this month. The Climate Prediction Center shows Omaha, along with all of Nebraska and Iowa, in the warmer than average area. In fact, we will see highs in the 40s and even low 50s throughout the first week of January.

The Climate Prediction Center also keeps Nebraska and Iowa in the drier than average area. Overall, the beginning of January does look mostly dry. Keep in mind though, winter is far from over, so we still have plenty of time for colder temperatures and more snow!
