3 News Now was in the room when former Nebraska Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst was fired.

The regents watched the news conference on our livestream.

Chairman of the NU Board of Regents Bob Whitehouse said Chancellor Ronnie Green made a tough call and supports the decision.

“In this case the chancellor and president have made a very difficult decision I think it goes without saying that Shawn Eichorst has been a good friend to many of us individually who have gotten to know him personally one-on-one. But I think the press conference and what the chancellor and president talked about is that they are ready to move forward and they want to compete at a different kind of level,” said Whitehouse.

Whitehouse said patience is a virtue and hopes Husker Nation hangs in there during this transition period.

“When we lose a ball game like we did last week this state goes into a funk. I mean they are really down and depressed. A lot of people just sit on the edge of winning and losing. I mean I almost want to say gosh there's more to it than that but on the other hand I think that most Nebraskans understand that and most regents hear from their constituents,” Whitehouse pointed out.

Green said they are looking at a national search firm for the next A.D. hire and Whitehouse supports that process.
