LA VISTA, NEB. (KMTV) — A man who fled from a traffic stop and caused a major traffic mess in La Vista is now in custody.
According to Nebraska State Patrol Sgt. Toby Czapla, A Nebraska State Trooper pulled over a male driver near 78th and Harrison St. Thursday evening. The man then sped off and fled the scene. The trooper called for assistance. NSP, Papillion Police Department and the La Vista Police Department all responded.
The driver, who has not been identified at the time of this report, sped towards 72nd and Giles where he lost control of his vehicle and ran over a median and into traffic going in the opposite direction. The driver slammed into another vehicle.
The vehicle had two passengers - a man and a woman who have not yet been identified. Both were injured and were transported to Bergan Mercy.
"The suspect was essentially trapped inside the vehicle due to the damage of his car," said Sgt. Czapla. "He was held at gunpoint for several minutes until secondary officers could arrive and assist with getting him out."
The suspect was also hurt and taken into custody at CHI Health Midlands.
Sarpy County dispatch didn't specify who, but said two of the people had serious but non-life threatening injuries. The third person was a trauma candidate.
The LVPD is investigating the crash while NSP is investigating the driver.
