NORTH BEND, Neb. (KMTV) — Dozens of North Bend children affected by the flooding had quite the surprise waiting for them this morning in the school gym -- new toys!

Fifty-three kids at North Bend Central Elementary received toys to replace those lost in the flood.

The kids had previously written down one toy they lost that they wanted back.

Author Julia Cook's Kids Helping Kids program had kids across the country raise money for the toys.

"The outpouring of support that we've had from schools, children and adults across the country is just amazing," said Tessie Beaver, principal of North Bend Central Elementary. "Until you go through a natural disaster receiving all of the support and care you don't know how many people are going to help you so it's just been fabulous."

A North Bend High School student who helped clean up homes in March handed out the toys.
