COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa. (KMTV) — U.S. Representative Cindy Axne (IA-03) introduced legislation Monday ensuring Iowa is included in any new emergency disaster supplemental funding after the Senate's failure to advance a $13 billion appropriations bill last week.
The bill would make sure that the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program (WHIP) is amended to include Iowa flooding. The change in legislation would allow Iowa to access funding for programs to help rebuild affected communities.
“Recent flooding has devastated communities in Southwest Iowa who desperately need help from the federal government,” said Rep. Axne. “Today, I’ve introduced legislation to ensure Iowa has access to funding for programs to help rebuild and recover from this natural disaster.”
Rep. Axne asked House and Senate leaders on April 5 to immediately pass a disaster relief bill fully funding recovery programs for all affected areas, including Iowa. The same day, she asked for funding for specific programs to be included in any new supplemental emergency disaster bill.
