Arrests made in connection with 16th & Phelps shooting

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha Police made four arrests in connection with a shooting that happened May 16 near 16th & Phelps St.

Minutes after a shooting at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge that left a man in critical condition, police responded to another shooting with a critical victim near 16th & Phelps.

Officers located one with a gunshot wound at the address. Omaha Police say the victim, 19-year-old Rico Minzel, reported he was walking outside when he was maced and shot.

Minzel was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Omaha Police Investigators arrested four in connection with the case. Two of the arrests are 16-year-old males who have been charged with robbery.

Twenty-year-old Luis Garcia-Tufino was booked into Douglas County Corrections for 1st degree assault, robbery, use of a weapon to commit a felony and possession of a stolen firearm.

Bailey Gomez, 18, was booked into Douglas County Corrections for attempted felony assault and accessory to a felony.
