OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The unemployment rate in Nebraska is low--but that means that some open jobs that companies have are not getting filled.

For July of 2019, the Nebraska unemployment rate sat right at 3.1% compared to the national 3.7%

While this is great for the economy, businesses are struggling to find qualified employees to fill open positions.

"It's really become a challenge the last six to twelve months to find outstanding team members," said Kevin Elwood, general manager of Love's Travel Stop.

At a local job fair Wednesday, booths sometimes sat empty--with employers waiting to find their perfect employees.

“Hundreds, hundreds of positions in this job fair today," said Kathy Zywiec, owner of JobsGuide.

It’s hard for businesses when people already have great jobs--so companies are more competitive than ever.

"We've had to really look at our salaries and benefits and wage offerings and continue to increase those,"

Jobs Guide hosts local career fairs 10 times per year.

The next event is on October 2.
