LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) — United States Attorney Joe Kelly announced Monday that a citizen of Ghana was sentenced last week in Lincoln for using the social security number of a U.S. citizen to gain employment in America.

Kwaku Bright, 58, was sentenced Sept. 20 to 27 months in prison. The sentence includes a three-year term of supervision after Bright is released.

Along with imprisonment, Bright must comply with all rules and regulations of the Bureau of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. If deported, Bright is not allowed to reenter or reside in the U.S. without permission.

Bright entered the U.S. and assumed the identity of a U.S. citizen in 2007. Since then, Bright has used the identity of the citizen to receive loans, apply for a passport and to work in the U.S.

The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security.
