LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska pet food maker has been fined $100,000 for exceeding the limit of wastewater it was permitted to discharge into a city water treatment plant.

Federal prosecutors for Nebraska say Crete Core Ingredients was sentenced Thursday for violating the Clean Water Act and ordered to pay the fine.

Prosecutors say an investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency determined that the plant exceeded is wastewater discharge limit in August 2014, about a year after it had been issued the permit. The EPA says that on Aug. 5, 2014, the plant discharged more than twice the daily maximum that was permitted under the permit issued.
